How To Reduce Inflammation

I can’t think of one example where being “inflamed” is a good thing.  A pimple, your temper, a toe, your speech, your digestion…nope, not one.  They all hurt, they all cause stress and they are all wished away by the person bearing the torch.

The latest research tells us that the root cause of many majoyr diseases is inflammation in the body.  As a motivational speaker on health I always look first to food as a way to help heal any physical distress (food for emotional distress is a WHOLE other field I’m not going to touch!)

There is enough evidence now that some foods and spices have properties that are ANTI-inflammatory so I say EAT UP!  Here’s a list of the top 10 foods that sooth the flame (in no particular order):

  • Alaskan salmon
  • Dark, leafy, fresh vegetables
  • Brightly colored fresh fruits or vegetables
  • Green tea
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Lean poultry
  • Nuts, legumes or seeds
  • Old fashioned oatmeal (steel cut oats)
  • Spices: Turmeric and Ginger
  • Red wine (resveratrol decreases cholesterol, increases HDL, and prevents blood vessel damage – also found in blueberries, cranberries and peanuts)

My advice is to make this your new improved weekly shopping list, kicking out some bad boy inflammatory junk foods that keep showing up in the grocery cart!
